Utilizes necessary medical equipment to treat the patient and ascertains the extent of their injuries or illness. Being an Emergency Medical Technician communicates with the medical care facility receiving the patient about the patient’s condition, status, and arrival time. Requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Emergency Medical Technician requires Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Requires Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Emergency Medical Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be an Emergency Medical Technician typically requires 1-3 years of related experience, or may need 0 years of experience with additional specialized training and/or certification.
